Sunday, 8th February 12:30-1:30pm, UK Ghost Story Festival Online
Ghosts in the Grid: Finding the Uncanny in Ordinary Places

The Ghost Story Festival brings together writers, readers and researchers from around the world to celebrate the strange, the spectral and the unseen. Across three days of talks, panels and performances, it explores why ghost stories endure – and what they reveal about us.

In my talk, Ghosts in the Grid, I look a wonderful group of writers into the sterile streets and ancient woods of Milton Keynes – a city built for the future, but haunted by its past. As the writer and researcher behind Revenants on the Redway: City of Secrets, I’ve spent the last year tracing the stories that surface in this most unlikely of haunted places.

I shared how urban planning, folklore and lived experience intertwine; how ghost stories can emerge from roundabouts, underpasses and new-build estates just as powerfully as from ruined mansions; and why the uncanny seems to thrive wherever people try to build something new.

Drawing on witness testimonies, psychogeography and modern parapsychology, I explored how stories of ghosts, watchers and revenants connect us to much older fears – and what they might tell us about how we live now, in an age of concrete, circuits and Chat GPT.

You can see the slides from the talk here.

Monday, 29th December 7pm-8:30pm, Winterval Ghost Stories with Nat Doig, on Zoom

It was an absolute honour to be invited to speak at this event! It was hosted by Nat from Weird in the Wade, and it’s going to be a delight to join the wonderful Emma Holohan from Ghost Catcher Isles and other special guests still to be announced for an evening of seasonal stories. I’ll be sharing a case from right here on the Redways, so if you’d like to spend an evening in some seriously spooky company, do come along!

🎃 Halloween Ghost Walk in Wolverton 🎃

I was absolutely delighted to have been invited by Martin Lawrence, chair of the wonderful Redway Runners, to lead a special Halloween ghost walk as part of their regular rambling series. My first ever ghost walk! But hopefully not my last 🙂

I’ve written a post about this wonderful experience, and you can read all about it here.

September 20th 2025, 1:15-1:45pm: Great Linford Manor Park, Milton Keynes, MK14 5AS

A Ghost in Every Grid Square Talk: As part of the Heritage Open Days series of events, I gave a 30-minute talk all about the Revenants on the Redway project covering what it is that makes MK such a tantalising space to look for spooky stories, introducing my project, and reading out some of the stories before asking the audience for any spooky stories they had to share. This was a fantastic event – the first time I’ve done anything like this, and a delight to share the project with a wide audience: standing room only!

For future reference, here’s the details about the day.

September 18th 2025, 8am: Stony Radio

Come along to Heritage Open Day! on Stony Sunrise Breakfast Show – with Caz Tricks

It was wonderful to come back onto Caz’s show to talk about my upcoming event at the Heritage Open Day – we did the promotional bit, of course, but also had a chat about 2:22 A Ghost Story which we’d both recently seen, and started to make plans for Halloween!

This time, the technology behaved and you can actually listen again to the episode here.

August 18th 2025, 8:30am: Listen Again on BBC Sounds

A Ghost in Every Grid Square on Andy Collins Breakfast Show

And as if one radio appearance in a week wasn’t exciting enough – I was back BBC Three Counties bright and early on Monday morning! No George making an appearance this time, but I did have to set the record straight on one thing… I’m not a ghost-hunter 😉

August 13th 2025, 6-10pm: Listen Again on Three Counties Radio

A Ghost in Every Grid Square on Babs Michel’s Show

This one was so much fun! I joined Babs Michel on her evening show to talk about my project to collect a ghost story for every grid square, share some stories, and tell her listeners how they can get in touch to share their own!

You can listen again at the link above – my bit starts at 45 minutes in, and it will be available until September 8th.

July 26th 2025, 10:00-11:30am: The Spiegeltent, Festival Central, Campbell Park, MK9 4AJ – £6

A Ghost in Every Grid Square at The Cabaret of Ideas, MK International Festival

I’m delighted to have been picked as one of the ‘experts’ for this event, talking about my experiences of mapping the spooky side of Milton Keynes.

For one morning only, you are invited to engage with a live speed-learning session featuring a line-up of fascinating thought leaders, experts and mavericks drawn from, or who have a strong connection with, Milton Keynes. After being plied with coffee and pastry, the audience will lucky-dip from 15 candidates and pick four 20-minute conversations to have over the course of the event as people share their passions, thoughts, insights and revelations.

Who knows who you’ll meet?

Well, there’s nearly a one-in-four chance it’ll be me! If you’d like to come along, you can see further details and book tickers here.

July 23rd 2025, 8am: Stony Radio

A Ghost in Every Grid Square on Stony Sunrise Breakfast Show – with Caz Tricks

On Wednesday 23rd, I joined Caz on Stony Radio to talk about Revenants on the Redway, my project exploring the strange, uncanny and ghostly stories hidden in every corner of Milton Keynes.

We chatted about how local legends, personal hauntings and eerie encounters shape our sense of place – and why mapping these tales across the city matters. And – we even had a live paranormal event at the end of the show, when the resident ghost objected to my music choices!

It’s a terrible shame that the tech gremlins also seem to have eaten Caz’s recording – so, for those of you that heard it live, you’re my only witnesses to George and his spooky ways 😉
